10 Essential Ways to call BS on the Rules

May 6, 2020 | blog

Most mornings I start the day off with quiet and coffee. I never know what’s going to come out… it’s a free for all once I get my pen in my hand lol. This is from those morning pages; a compilation of lessons and reminders of how I live my life.

Much of it is contrary to what we’re conditioned to believe about ourselves and others according to society; ideas about hustle and worthiness, being strong and never soft (at least not in public) and busy is better.

Well, here’s me calling bullshit on those ways of being. They didn’t work for me, so I decided to make up my own rules. Yes, you can do that!

Slow Down
be ok with incremental growth
but stay true to myself and focused on my dreams

Be Human
without guilt
relish being in my body
breathe

Will This Make ME Happy
now? in two years?
no oreo people/jobs/clients (i don’t eat them, so why would i let junk food people in my life?)

Give Myself Room to Breathe
i’m not addicted to deadlines anymore
i accept and appreciate the floaty, creative aspects of my personality
noticing how i pile stuff on myself (totally working on this one!)

Honor My Strength
it takes so much emotional muscle to have feelings
i don’t need anyone to validate my worthiness
patriarchy will tell me i’m not enough

Asshole Brain is Sneaky
as i evolve, so does asshole brain and i’m getting better at recognizing it
it won’t take me down

I Value Myself
i am not my work
i’m worthy of my dreams
i can get paid for my expertise and what comes easy
i can say no and set boundaries

Don’t be Afraid of Softness
it doesn’t make you weak, it actually makes you stronger
it’s ok to admit when something is hard and it sucks (#pandemic)

Let Joy & Weirdness In
it doesn’t have to be earned
it’s yours to define
do it every day, all the time

Say I Love You
to yourself
outside of traditional family constructs
let it sink in and flow out

Right now, even with all the uncertainty, I want you to know that you can call bullshit on something, too. It doesn’t mean you have to turn your life upside down, it’s about (re)claiming what makes you feel whole and happy, in small ways, every day. Start with love… then, keep going.

Many hugs!
Laura
